What each rarity means
- Common (C): The bulk of every pack. Almost all are worth cents.
- Uncommon (UC): A step up from commons, but still mostly bulk.
- Rare (R): Most packs have one. Playable staples can be worth a little; most aren't.
- Leader (L): The card a deck is built around. Regular leaders are cheap; their alternate-art versions are counted separately below.
- Super Rare (SR): Several per box, and the first rarity where competitive staples hold real value.
- Secret Rare (SEC): One or two per set, found in roughly half of boxes.
- Alternate art / Parallel: The same card with new full art. Most boxes have at least one.
- Treasure Rare (TR): A newer special print, far rarer than regular alternate arts: roughly one in 12 boxes.
- SP card: Special reprints of popular older cards with new art, in roughly one of every six boxes.
- Manga rare: Alternate arts drawn in black-and-white manga style. The most valuable regular pull, at roughly one in every 40 boxes.
- Super alternate art, gold and signature prints: The rarest prints of all: Red Super Alternate Arts, gold SP cards and gold-stamped signatures.
What this means for collectors
- A typical manga rare is worth about 1,360 times a typical Super Rare. That's why a box's value depends so much on whether it hits one.
- 94% of commons, uncommons and rares are worth under one dollar. Don't count on base cards to pay for a box.
- Chase versions (alternate arts and rarer) are 25% of all booster cards, but they hold most of the money.
